Chris Meredith is in his tenth year of teaching at Shadow Ridge Middle School in Flower Mound, Texas. His responsibilities include directing Honor Winds, Jazz Band, assisting Symphonic Band, and teaching the beginning brass classes.
Ensembles at Shadow Ridge have consistently earned sweepstakes at UIL Concert & Sightreading contests, have been selected by the Foundation for Music Education as a National Winner in the National Wind Band Honors project six consecutive years (2010-2015), and have performed at The 66th Annual Midwest Clinic in Chicago, IL. Most recently Honor Winds has been a top 5 Finalist in the last two Texas CC Honor Band Contests 2014 & 2016.
Meredith is an alum of the University of North Texas College of Music and Southern Methodist University. As an active trombonist, Meredith performed twice at the 2003 International Trombone Festival in Helsinki, Finland as a Finalist in both the ITA Solo and Quartet Competitions, has performed as principal bass trombonists of multiple groups including San Angelo Symphony Orchestra, North East Orchestra and at the Pierre Montuex School. Meredith has also been a multiple recipient of the Lewisville Education Foundation’s “Foundation Award”, honored with the Texas PTA Lifetime Member Award, and was the 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year at Shadow Ridge Middle School.
Mr. Meredith is an active adjudicator, guest clinician and lecturer. Current projects include Rhythm Rockers: a rhythmic progression for young musicians and the Musical Mastery Beginner Band series with Asa Burk, Alicia DeSoto, Kathy Johnson, and Dominic Talanca. Meredith resides in Highland Village, Texas with his wife Dr. Kimberly Meredith and their 7-week old daughter, Charlotte Noelle Meredith.
Alicia DeSoto has worked with the Shadow Ridge Middle School band since 2009. Her responsibilities include directing the Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, assisting Honor Winds, and teaching the beginning flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, and saxophone classes.
A Native of Sandy Hook, Connecticut Mrs. DeSoto attended Newtown High School where she played clarinet, bassoon and alto sax in the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, sang in the Select Choir and served as drum major of the Marching Band. Mrs. DeSoto was a member of the Norwalk Youth Symphony and
the Western Connecticut State University Wind Ensemble where she played the clarinet, and the East Coast Jazz Drum and Bugle Corps where she played the trumpet. In 2005 Mrs. DeSoto was awarded the Connecticut Association of Schools Fine Arts Award and the John Philip Sousa Award.
Mrs. DeSoto earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree with Magna Cum Laude and Distinguished Honors from the Honors College at the University of North Texas. While at North Texas, she served as the Assistant to the Director for the Green Brigade Marching Band. She was also Vice President for the North Texas Student Music Educators and was invited to join the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society and the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society. In 2009 she was named the UNT Outstanding Undergraduate Music Education Student.
Mrs. DeSoto earned her Master of Music in Music Education degree in 2016 from Southern Methodist University and lives in Lantana, Texas with her husband David and two cats, Gracie and Rosie. Mr. DeSoto is also a band director in Lewisville ISD, at DeLay Middle School.
Mr. Meredith and Mrs. DeSoto are also co-authors of Rhythm Rockers and Musical Mastery
Justin Juarez has been the private trumpet instructor for Shadow Ridge Middle School since 2009. In addition to maintaining a private studio of around 45-50 students, he also gives weekly master classes and assists with directing the Shadow Ridge Jazz Band, focusing on improvisation and style.
Mr. Juarez has been the second trumpet for the Arlington, Garland, and Las Colinas Symphony since 2009. He is also a performer for the Crested Butte Festival Orchestra, and was previously a member of the Tallahassee Symphony as well as the Sinfonia Gulf Coast. As an active freelance trumpet player, he also performs/performed with the Plano Symphony Orchestra, the Imperial Brass, the Allen Philharmonic, the Sherman Symphony, and other area brass quintets, jazz combos, churches, and weddings.
Mr. Juarez holds an undergraduate degree from the University of North Texas in Music Education and a Masters degree in Trumpet Performance from Florida State University.
