The quality of work that a performing ensemble accomplishes during its rehearsal is an extremely important factor in the overall success of the group. Efficient rehearsals or classes produce SUPERIOR musicians and bands. There are a few factors that will contribute to great classes on a daily basis. These factors will directly translate to your future profession.
- ATTITUDE: A positive attitude will go a long way in helping everyone in the band class reach their potential. Always enter the band hall with a purpose of accomplishing musical goals and having fun. Self-discipline plays a large role in determining your attitude.
- ATTENDENCE: We can only truly inspire and share knowledge with people who are with us on a consistent basis. Be prepared, plan ahead and be present for every rehearsal. These are not "practice sessions" - Rehearsals are fluid opportunities to learn how to interact with others through music making. Being PRESENT is essential to learn how you and your part fits within the group.
- EQUIPMENT: The right equipment will make rehearsal go smoother. HAVE A PENCIL on your stand in every band class. Marking music helps you remember important information about the piece being prepared. This will help you in your home practice. Your instrument and accessories should be in working order. This is your responsibility. Make sure you take care of instrument maintenance and reeds BEFORE coming to class.
- RESPECT: When a large group of people work closely together on a daily basis, it is important to be very respectful of every person involved in and outside of the classroom. Work with each other in the group and treat others as you would like to be treated.
